About

What is the transnationalacademy?

The transnationalacademy or TNI academy is an online learning platform for activists and researchers who want to deepen their understanding of key global trends, beinspired with new ideas and real stories of change, and connect to a global community of activists seeking to change the world.

TNI is a research institute that for over 50 years has sought to support global struggles for justice through its analysis and its relationships with social movements, engaged scholars and policymakers. We publish regularly and widely and are deeply engaged in global movements to solve today’s crises of poverty, war, ecological destruction and authoritarianism.

The transnationalacademy seeks to bring that engaged learning to a global community of activists - to empower everyone to change the world.

Who should enroll in the TNI academy?

Anyone and everyone! Unless the course says otherwise, our course offerings are intended for anyone worldwide who wants to learn more – activists, students, researchers, trade unionists, community leaders - and anyone wanting to make the world a fairer place.

What kind of courses do you offer?

We offer courses that are scheduled and ‘live’ which enables you to engage directly with speakers and the community over a set period of time, or that can be done at your own pace at any time (based on video recordings and readings). Many also involve interactive quizzes, forums for discussion and more. All the courses are developed based on our large network of activist scholars worldwide and our long experience of research, advocacy and activism on these issues.

Some courses explore big topics and ideas – such as Fractures and Digital capitalism – that will help you understand key global trends shaping our world and identify strategies for transformation. Others are more hands-on – such as Cities beyond Growth – providing you the tools, tactics and tips that can deliver change in your own community.

Is the TNI academy free?

TNI offers all its courses for free as a resource for activists because it does not want to exclude anyone. However putting on a course costs TNI money - to prepare the resources and to pay for those who speak, prepare materials and deliver the course. If you are therefore able to contribute, please do so. This will ensure we can put on similar courses in the future.
